Departure Day (Arrrrrgh!)

I must admit that I am feeling a little queasy to say the least! After sitting in a room for the morning really not taking anything in. That was after the added stress of having weight limits close to the maximum allowed also in the back of the mind (30kg on the boat, 10 of which are in a pelican case and laptop)!

Anyway it is off to a good greasy BBQ before setting sail. Just the type of food to settle the stomach!

Some more photos will go in but if you are after some visuals check out the Australian Antarctic Divisions Website. http://www.aad.gov.au/

  3. Angus,
The waves did feel pretty big at times as the boat is not as big as it looks. When the waves are at 6-7 meters they feel huge and it bobs about like a cork!I managed to keep all my meals down but need a little assistance from Kwells (travel sickness tablets)!

  4. Ben,
We did see some dlphin pods for the first couple of days and a whale. I was not outside when the killer whale went past! Once dwn in the sea ice there were more an more seals and penguins. Penguins are very funny little creatures with lots of character. The most notable sight was Leopard seal with her pup on the sea ice! Very rare to see apparently.

Currently there are no Elephant Seals on the station but they will come when the ice moves out.

Food on the boat is great!
